Diabetic Eye Disease
Screening and treatment of diabetic eye disease is carried out at Victorian Eye Surgeons. Diabetes affects blood vessels at the back of the eye. This is known as diabetic retinopathy. Diabetic retinopathy can cause loss of vision in two ways. Firstly, there can be leakage of fluid at the centre of the eye. This is known as macula oedema. Secondly, it can also cause blood vessels to block leading to the formation of abnormal new vessels that can bleed spontaneously.
